Because teaching was the focus of BECon 2003 and because we identified instruction in kilnforming basics as the area of greatest demand from both instructors and their students, our pre- and post-conference workshops were largely selected with this in mind.

Depending on the student/teacher's experience, some of the classes offered new technical material for the participant; however, offering "more and new tricks" was not the intent of our classes. BECon endeavored to focus on the presentation of course material as much as the content of that material.

We also expected that due to the type of student – most already teachers – the class interchange in approach would offer as much in valuable dialogue as the course itself.

CLASS CODES

The workshops offered before and after BECon were designed to cover either teaching method, technical methods or both.

TC: Teachers' Course
MH: Method w/ Hands-on participation
MD: Method Demonstration

LOCATIONS

All workshops were located in professional studios with full-sized kilns, lots of table and firing space and technicians knowledgeable in equipment operation. The studios engaged for workshops were:

R & E: The Research and Education Department, located on the premises of the Bullseye Glass Factory in Southeast Portland.
RC: The Resource Center, located at the Bullseye Connection in the Pearl District.
Ramp: Studio Ramp is a custom fabrication studio that specializes in kiln glass for artists and architects. Located near the Bullseye factory.
Small Planet: A spacious, well-equipped glass studio located a few blocks from the Bullseye Glass factory, Small Planet produces primarily one-of-a-kind and production works in kilnformed glass designed by owner/operator Doug Randall.

REGISTRATION

Registration for workshops is open to those registered for the conference.

Once all conference attendees have had the opportunity to register for workshops, any remaining spaces may be offered to non-conference applicants.

MORE TO COME

Additional classes may be added if time, instructors, and space become available. Canceling out of a class in which you are already registered in order to enroll in a new offering, however, will result in a penalty.

We apologize that all workshops could not be publicized simultaneously. Unfortunately we are not yet the well-oiled machine we hope eventually to be.

CANCELLATION

Cancellation before June 15 will incur a 25% (of registration fee) penalty. No refunds for cancellations after June 15.
