Where does Bullseye Glass Co. get ideas for new hues? Are there some colors that are impossible to produce in glass? How can artists work with Bullseye to develop glass colors? In this freewheeling session, Bullseye's Product Development team shares stories about the origins of some of the company’s most interesting glass colors and discusses the challenges involved in creating colors that are unique, yet also scalable, repeatable, and compatible.

Daniel Schwoerer is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin (BS, Civil Engineering; MS, Engineering Mechanics), where he also worked in the art department as a graduate assistant to Professor Harvey Littleton in 1968-69. After graduation, Schwoerer moved to Portland, where he founded Bullseye Glass Company with partners, Ray Ahlgren and Boyce Lundstrom. In addition to serving as Bullseye's CEO, Schwoerer works with the company's Research & Education team to investigate leading-edge issues in kilnforming.

As Glass Technologist/Production Manager, Sam Andreakos has been developing exotic and original styles and colors of glass at Bullseye for 25 years. He worked as a restoration and commission artist at Victorian Glass Studio and Alvarado Studios in Chicago before moving to Portland where he initially worked at Glass Craft Studios and then Uroboros Glass Company. He has developed special colors and facilitated art projects with such artists as Klaus Moje, Lino Tagliapietra, and Dale Chihuly.

Ted Sawyer received his BA in art with a focus in ceramics from Lewis and Clark College. He joined Bullseye in 1997, and is the Director of Research & Education. Sawyer teaches and lectures internationally and directs the production of Bullseye's online educational videos. His work has been featured in Corning's New Glass Review 28, 30, and 31, has exhibited at galleries and museums around the world.

Mary Kay Nitchie is Bullseye's Marketing Manager. She graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (BFA, Printmaking and Graphic Design) and Reed College (BA, Studio Art). She has worked at Bullseye for more than 20 years, currently managing a creative team that produces Bullseye's technical videos, website, advertising, and catalogs for products and classes, as well as Emerge, Bullseye's biennial kiln-glass art competition.
