Clear reed glass

Postby Karyn Cott » Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:47 pm

This is my first post on this forum. I am working on a panel that is 10.5"x13" and is made up of two 3 mm pieces right now. I am adding a piece of clear reed with frit powder in the reeds on top with the reed side up. I have not used reed in the past unless I have capped it. Will the reed be retained and will I get the strip effect that I am looking for during a full fuse without this glass being capped?

Thanks,
Karyn

Hi Karyn,

I'm not absolutely sure I understand what you mean when you ask whether the reed will be retained.

If you take it to a full fuse, the reed after firing will be retained as pattern (thin stripes of clear between the color of the powder), but not as texture (ridges).

Thank you Lani; you did understand what I was asking. I did a test fire with the reed capped and uncapped and the only difference is that the frit line is just a tad sharper on the capped glass. Thanks for your help.
