Interesting Colourbar Set-up

Hi!!! I just thought I would share a really fun way to get lots of movement in your colourbar approach; yet lots of control. I used my flameworking mandrels because they are nice and stong and stainless steel.

Once you have made your colourbar and made it flow how you like, then comes the harder part to actually cut it so you do not loose any of the design. I like to cut mine in sections , and then slice sideways , upside down and sideways. It was almost hard to cut this one because it looked sooooo flowing BUT once cut it will be very fun to re-invest into a large panel. The colourbar is 18 inchs x 10 inchs x 3inchs

I forgot to mention. I also only take the pieces up to 1480 for 15 minutes so that the glass will be blended nicely but not taken toooo hot. (I never care if I still get bits that have NOT completely dripped) as it helps for a nice design when these are cut off (I like to save these toooo)

Thanks Dana. I do have primed kiln shelf underneath these . And it is not as hot as a potmelt ( I only go to 1480 F.) so it is alittle different than a potmelt for sure. I want to make sure that the Opaline Striker stays true and happy and the reactions are good. I am not going above 1480 F. now at all almost.

Here are some other cuts from the same colourbar. It will probably make 3 large 30 inch x 20 inchx 1 inch panels. I can hardly waite to get started. Depending how you slice will determine the look . If you cut sideways and then length wise then you can match those all up when you are ready to design.

I just thought this might help out if someone wants to try different set-ups. I hope it will give an experimental inspiration to some who are not familiar with different ways of setting up glass colourbars with stips and frit and flat glass

I just thought of showing this picture as sometimes a photo tells a thousand words. If you slice the glass paper thin, you can use it to shade and blend the glass. Lay the thin slices on top of frit and powders and "JIMMIES" (I love that name) and some more frit on top and let it all blend.
