reactive ice and blue

The blue I used is Light Cyan-dbl rolled--000216 0030. I posted the picture, hopefully you can see where it did react. I like Mary Kay's pictures better!

I pretty much got the same thing. Nice blue on the back with a thin black line where the reactive wrapped as it melted and completely black on the other side. Maybe there was a bad batch?

Can those of you who are having problems with this glass please post your firing cycles? And if you have the production dates of the pieces of glass you used, that would be helpful as well. Thanks!

My first schedule, in an early post, failed similarly. So I tried again with your suggested working temp:

300 dph 1450 hold 10
9999 dph 900 hold 60
50 dph 700 no hold
off

I have run the know your kiln tests and my kiln fires very evenly. And unless my pyro has gone bad, I have never had any trouble with over firing.

My glass production dates are:
1009 - 10/15/09
0216 - 7/02/10

This is a photo of my layup: (The other test on the right has reactive irid on clear with the irid in the same orientation as on the cyan so I can see if I got the correct side down after firing.)

This is a close up of the bottom so you can see the irid is on the correct side: (sorry for the hot spot, but it helps you see the irid sparkle a little better in the clear. The sparkle on the cyan is just regular sparkle . you can see the irid a little better on the bottom right corner. ).

Production dates:
000216 0030(Cyan) 8/10/10
001009 0031 Reactive 10/15/09 (which is the same date as John's)! Do you think there's a connection?

For info, this technique works great using irid blue against regular reactice ice. Test pics at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/joetotale/ ... 391019401/

I can't recall which irid blue I used - will check and update the Flickr descriptions. Also, I took the disc from the corner of a sheet of irid blue to see how the amount of irid coating affected the reaction. It went from deep, almost black blue where coating was 'silvery' to a stunning blue where the coating was... well, bluer!

Looking forward to trying out the irid green next.

I've had the same black results as others. I know this is an old thread and joe totale had great results but was there any official resolution?

After reading this thread, I would love to add abit . Sometimes you can use the DARK glass by slicing it up THROUGH the reaction , and you will almost get a painterly look to the slices. Here are some sliced pieces with reactive glass sliced in many different ways , and then re-invested into panels. Just a thought as you have a WONDERFUL reaction there, not quite what you wanted but NEVER a waist and usually a wonderful surprise.

This is mostly reactive ice and cloud with light cyan and emerald and reactive stringers and much more. I LOVE reactive glass and never have any waist.
