Can I fuse silver bails into pendant?

Postby louise_murray » Mon Sep 20, 2010 6:40 am

Hi, I'm new to fused glass jewellery making so am looking for advice re. most professional way to finish a pendant.

I have sterling silver bails. Can these be fused into the pendant during the full fuse stage in the same way that you would fuse a copper wire hanger into a tile for wall mounting?

Advice greatly appreciated.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you cannot fuse Sterling Silver bails into glass for several reasons. First, the silver will firescale and weaken badly. Also, the glass is incompatible with the silver, and if there is enough silver present, the glass will crack. I have done small pieces of fine silver wire successfully. Give that a try.
