About the Artist
John Kenneth Clark has worked as a professional commissioned artist since 1984, primarily focusing on glass projects in Europe using a combination of glass etching and painting. Clark first became acquainted with Bullseye Glass Company while creating a fused glass window for the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, Scotland.
Clark is currently exploring the relationship between music and color, transcribing or transposing musical pieces into glass. He has established a system that allocates a color to every note on the piano covering 8 octaves thus translating the music into a graphic image. Clark is taking the medium of music which is an art form experienced through the passing of time and creating a pattern of shape and color that can be seen in the moment. This will be the main exploration during his Portland residency in 2019.
Clark received his B.A. and M.A. from the Glasgow School of Art.
