Emerge 2014 Winners and Nationals Tour Dates Announced
Bullseye Glass Co. in Portland, Oregon, has named the winners in Emerge 2014, the company's biennial juried competition for emerging artists in kilnformed glass. The awards were announced April 12 during an award ceremony at Bullseye Gallery in Portland.
Before the awards were handed out, Bullseye Gallery director Lani McGregor announced that the Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM), in Bellevue, Wash., would host the final stop of Emerge 2014 exhibit's national tour in spring 2015.
"The opportunity to collaborate with a museum such as Bellevue sets this community and this method firmly into the art, craft, and design conversation of the 21st century," said McGregor. "Stay tuned. We’ve only just begun to emerge."
BAM will mount an amplified version of the exhibition, including all award winners, plus additional selections from the finalist works. BAM director Stefano Catalani will select the works to be included. BAM will also host the companion Evolve exhibit of former Emerge finalists (opening in May at Bullseye Gallery) including a rich educational program of artist lectures, panel discussions and workshops. (For more information on BAM, see www.bellevuearts.org.)
Emerge 2014 attracted more than 320 entrants from a total of 32 countries and 35 universities. Jurors for the competition were Kathleen Moles, Emily Nachison, and James Yood.
Emerge 2014 Winners
A gallery of the winners' and finalists' artwork is available at www.bullseyeglass.com/emerge. The exhibit catalog is also available.
To acknowledge the fact that an artist’s career is never a before-and-after snapshot, Bullseye Gallery has also created Evolve, a separate exhibit that celebrates former Emerge finalists who have continued to create works that expand the medium. In the years ahead it will be a permanent part of Emerge. Evolve features Martie Negri, USA (Emerge 2006); Nathan Sandberg, USA (Emerge 2004); and Amanda Simmons, UK (Emerge 2012).
