Klaus Moje: Glass

Now in stock. $40.

Klaus Moje: Glass is currently the only volume devoted exclusively to the life and career of Klaus Moje, who is widely considered to be a founding father of the contemporary kiln-glass movement.

The book follows Moje from his earliest exposure to glass art in the 1950s through his pioneering work on three continents over the next 50 years—as he influences and is influenced by other glassmakers, founds the renowned glass workshop at Australian National University's Canberra School of Art, achieves international significance as an artist (with pieces held in more than 50 public collections), and continues, to this day, to produce some of his finest work.

The story of this master and tireless innovator is woven together from three distinctive elements. One is the main story arc, narrated in rich detail by Australian artist and curator Megan Bottari. This is interlaced with numerous personal anecdotes, written by artists, curators, dealers, and collectors—all key figures in the kiln-glass movement whose lives and work have entwined with Moje's. Finally, numerous images illustrate the tale. These include informal photos from throughout Moje's professional life and more than 60 color plates of his work dating from 1961 to 2006, with many examples of the brilliantly colored, dramatically patterned vessels and wall panels for which he is best known.

Part living history and part loving tribute, Klaus Moje: Glass is a compelling monograph and a tremendous gift to art enthusiasts around the globe.

In 2008, Moje's much-anticipated retrospective exhibition will show in several major US museums, including in the Portland (Oregon) Art Museum, during the Glass Art Society's 38th annual conference. Consider preparing yourself and the art lovers in your life for the coming exhibition with this elegant, important, and timely book.
