Much like its humble cousin sandpaper, the diamond hand lap is used to make rough surfaces and sharp edges smooth. Unlike sandpaper, the abrasive surface of a hand lap is composed of bonded diamonds. This surface is attached to an ergonomic foam grip, making it a convenient and versatile coldworking tool that serves a number of functions in the kilnforming process. In this lesson, you will learn the special characteristics of diamond hand laps and techniques for using them safely and effectively. We'll also identify scenarios where they can be used before, between, and after firings.
