Exhibition Catalog Available for Emerge / Evolve 2016

FOR RELEASE October 14—Bullseye Glass Co. in Portland, Oregon, has published the exhibition catalog for Emerge 2016, the company's eighth biennial juried competition for emerging artists in kilnformed glass.

Emerge 2016 attracted more than 370 entrants. More than 40 finalists—representing 16 countries—were selected and a total of seven prizes were awarded. The Gold Award went to Helen Lee, whose KowTow is featured on the cover.

The elegant, full-color catalog includes:

  • An introduction by Bullseye Gallery director Lani McGregor
  • Photos of the artwork by the winners and finalists—more than 40 artists
  • Artist statements and profiles
  • An interview with Emerge 2016 jurors: Stefano Catalani, curator of the Bellevue Arts Museum; Kim Harty, artist, educator, and writer; Sue Taylor, contributing editor to Art in America and professor of art history at Portland State University.

Evolve 2016

To acknowledge the fact that an artist’s career is never a before-and-after snapshot, Bullseye Projects has again created a companion exhibit that celebrates former Emerge finalists who have continued to create works that expand the medium.

  • Rei Chikaoka (Emerge 2010 and 2014)
  • Matthew Day Perez (Emerge 2008 and 2010)
  • Carmen Vetter (Emerge 2006 and 2008)
