A copper glass. May have dark color reaction at interface with cadmium/selenium or sulfur glasses including 000125, 000120, 000124, 001120, 001125, 001122, 001137, 001437, 000137. During processes that require greater heatwork, such as pattern or flow bar techniques, Turquoise Blue Opalescent has the potential to deposit trace amounts of copper on the surface of the kilnshelf. These deposits may react with sulfur-bearing glasses in subsequent firings. Such deposits may not be visible and can react even when the shelf has been properly scraped and reprimed or, alternatively, when used ThinFire has been removed and new ThinFire is applied. This type of contamination is impermanent and may be burned out/fired out over the course of subsequent firings. A contaminated shelf can be fired with glasses—other than sulfur-bearing glasses—and no reaction will take place. In our studios, we’ve observed the greatest contamination in subsequent firings with sulfur-bearing French Vanilla Opalescent (000137) and Spring Green Opalescent (000126). For a burnout firing, we recommend a rate of 300°F/hr to 1525°F, with a hold of 1:00 hour.
Reaction Note: Copper-bearing Turquoise Blue fired on French Vanilla (sulfur-bearing) and White (does not contain lead, copper, or sulfur). Notice the earth-tone hued reactions where the various forms of Turquoise Blue and French Vanilla meet. There is no reaction with White on the lower portion of the tile.

Working Notes
Reaction Note: French Vanilla will react with varying degrees to glass colors containing copper. The sample below shows copper-bearing Turquoise Blue (000116) in various forms (-08, -01, -02, -03, -30), fired over French Vanilla (000137, top half), with each then layered over with White (000113, bottom half). The area of interface and effects vary between French Vanilla and Turquoise Blue. The White does not react with either.

Slightly translucent opalescent turquoise.
Working Notes
Torch: In general, 000116-0576 becomes more opaque once it is flameworked, although it is translucent in smaller amounts.
Kiln: Working properties and kilnformed characteristics are consistent with sheet glass. See sheet glass notes for this style.

Working Notes
Stringers come in 0.5 mm (“Fine Line”), 1 mm, and 2 mm thicknesses and are approximately 17.75″ (451 mm) long. They are packed in clear plastic tubes that are 18″ (457 mm) long and 0.75″ (19 mm) in diameter.
