Detailed Information

About Textured Sheet Glass
Cold Characteristics

Texture sheet glass styles have pattern-based relief on the top surface. The underside texture is like other standard, non-textured Bullseye sheet glass styles.

Working Notes

Texture glasses are versatile in kilnforming, though have the potential to lose their original texture in some firings. Textured glass styles may be used in different techniques, including:

Bullseye Brainstorm: Textures & Irids:

  • Layering to create trapped bubble designs
  • Layering to create iridescent patterns
  • Powder application to enhance a pattern
  • Using channels to design with stringers
  • Tack Fusing to maintain original texture

For Rainbow Iridescent Textures
Lay-up: When Firing Rainbow Iridescent Texture sheet glasses face up on the top layer of a 6 mm construction, some of the original texture often remains, even when firing to a full fuse (1490°F/810°C).

Remaining texture after Full Fuse firing with Black Prismatic Rainbow Iridescent as cap sheet.

For Rainbow Iridescent Clear-on-Clear Collage Styles
Lay-up: When Firing Rainbow Iridescent Clear-on-Clear sheet glasses face up on the top layer of a 6mm construction, much of the original texture often remains, even when firing to a full fuse (1490°F/810°C). This is especially noticeable where the iridescent coating has wrapped around the raised accessory glass elements (frit, stringer, confetti)
